Next week and tomorrow is the Big Day

Next week here at A Man, A Band and A Plan I will have a couple of bonified super duper interviews.  First I have a talk with Drew Holloway of Recess Monkey discussing the musical growth of the Recess Monkey who play some pretty darn cool music.  Then it’s a  return to the Song and the Process and an interview with Dan Zanes and one of my all time favorite songs Wonder Wheel!  Stop on by next week it’s gonna be a lot of fun.

Human Tim and Super Stolie!

Tomorrow the Poochamungas take the stage at Lincoln Hall.  many of Chicago’s finest kindie rockers will be there playing a couple of songs and acting all kinds of silly.  The rehearsal on Thursday went well and was really a lot of fun.  Getting to hang out and play music is the whole idea anyway.  There was food, beverages and a whole lot of good music. The show looks to be a great time so go and get your tickets today! Remember it’s SATURDAY, MARCH 8 AT 3PM.

Saturday is the BIG DAY!

I know I have mentioned it a few times this week but in case you missed it the BIG SHOW is happening this Saturday, March 8 at 3pm.  The venue is Lincoln Hall and the doors open at 2 and the show starts at 3.  It’s gonna be a really fun time with lots of great music, dancing and silliness.  Every ticket purchase includes a FREE download of the Band Together CD.  The event supports The Music Intonation Workshop (IMW) their mission is to

  • Empower children to become rock stars on every stage of life through innovative music education. IMW’s in-school, after-school, and summer programs provide year-round access to instruments, instruction, performance opportunities, and mentorship to youth age 6-17 in Chicago who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity. Through the process of learning to play instruments and working together with their peers, IMW students have the chance to get involved, learn new skills, express their creativity, and find their niche by playing in a pop band.

A good cause, great music and they even serve up some tasty food.  Stop on by you’ll be glad you did!band together bands

One week from today… Band Together!

bad together

Our next gig will be a week from today,  Saturday, March 8th at 3pm,  Lincoln Hall.   Poochamugas will be part of a benefit for The Intonation Music Workshops.  We’ll be playing two songs in the middle of the show.  I was lucky enough to do a cooking spot on WGN and shamelessly plug the show.  The one thing I didn’t get to do is plug the bands that are playing and so here are the artists performing…

I’m looking forward to a great time and hope that you and yours are able to attend the show.  Every adult attending gets a free download of the CD and a great concert to boot! Stop on by and get your groove on. Click the link on the picture below!

The Chicago Kindie meeting or Windy Kindie Collective???

wkc WINDY KINDIE COLLECTIVEThe name is just a suggestion choosing Blackhawks colors because… Well because they won a Staley Cup.   Last night a few Chicago artists got together for pizza, beer and talk of the growing kindie community in Chicago. I got the wheels rolling when I called for a meeting on the Windy Kindie Facebook page and then Little Miss Ann took it home.  It was a productive exchange of ideas and information not to mention the idea of a collaborative effort on a CD and show. An idea started by Little Miss Ann, Super Stolie and Miss Jamie on the Farm.   I would love to see this become a monthly group with members coming as they can and maybe an “agenda” to talk about during meetings.  Just some thoughts.  It was great to see Super Stolie, Ivan and Mike (Istvan and his Imaginary Friends), Neil (Mr Singer), Little Miss Ann, Rob (of Ralphs World), Tim (Human Tim/Robot Tim), Jamie (Miss Jamie on the Farm).  Lets Do it again soon

Studio time, solo acoustic and Kindiefest

Recording again!

Recording again!

What can I say?  It’s crunch time. We are headed into the studio today, Sunday to finish up Block Party and there is a deadline looming overhead.  I want a finished product to take Kindiefest.  All of the heavy lifting has been done.  The songs are recorded.  Now we need to add vocals, guitars, sax, etc.  The parts that make the song sing! (funny no?)  We have 6 songs completed  and 6 to finish.  Hoping all goes smoothly but things never do.  Then when we finish we need to mix and master it. Most important is to do it right.  While the CD won’t be released till Mid Summer I would like to have preview copies for people at the conference. But only if it’s right.   So Alton, Pete, John and Frank shall be working to finish the CD.  That is the goal we shall see if we can get there. There is excitement in the air!

Kindiefest.    A  wonderful event with really great people and lots of information to learn.  You get out of it what you put in.  People are enthusiastic, nice and occasionally you might learn a thing or two from a panel talk.  Best of all it’s a chance to meet old friends, make new ones and connect with a whole group of people who understand what kindie music is.   On the down side it is not cheap to go to New York and to take the time away from famil  requires a loving wife  (Thank you dear).   So it takes a little doing to go.  But is it worth it?  Well I am promoting a new CD (hopefully finished before I go) and the people who hire and promote what I do are going to be there.  Plus the chance to hear some great bands, talk to fellow professionals and attend  panels talking about how to better do what we do.  So  I think so.   But only time will tell and a lot of that is up to me.  Now excuse me I gotta go finish an Album!
